Superb image qualities

IS is not really needed for macro work

For close up macro the lens is fantastic.

As a telephoto it's dreadful. The IS seems way overrated The lens hood is massively out of proportion to the lens itself.

Took a little time to work out how to get the best from this lens (my inexperience) but the resulting images are great Beautiful out of focus blur when fully open and good aperture range Build quality is up to Canon’s usual L series standard

Beautiful bokeh. Sweet spot is around f11. Image Stabaliser works great at lower shutter speeds

Plastic body, feels cheaply made.

I find this lens a good piece of kit if you like to take shots of wide life close up . A very good lens for macro.

Don't have an bad points on this l series lens

A bit heavy, but they probably all are!

Speed of focussing (when you use the focus limiter switch). Excellent image quality, both when used as a macro lens, and also as a mid range telephoto lens. The IS system is good, but of limited benefit in macro mode (use a tripod if possible).

On the tripod a lens mounting ring is useful - come on Canon include one please. It's a lot of money, but you get what you pay for.
