Noisier than an SSM based lens, but no surprise. No macro function, but min focal distance is not too bad.

My only slightly criticism is that I'd like to be able to use the 'lock' at multiple points as the lens extends.

Great travel lens. Using it on a Sony a77 - No problems with the picture quality.

Covers most needs of general photography, so no need to carry an array of lenses around.

The Sony SAL-18250 is an incredibly versatile lens. Great if you don’t want to carry a whole bag of lenses around with you. Being a Sony lens the construction is second to none. The speed of focus is amazingly fast and the zoom ring is very responsive....
