Fable III (PC) review

Fable III was released in October of last year and, somewhat bizarrely, is only now getting a PC port. The good news is that the PC version comes with the contents of the Limited Collector's Edition and all of the DLC packs. The bad news is that the...

Despite key improvements in several areas, Fable III isn't quite the masterpiece that Lionhead keeps promising. The game's unconventional structure, while ambitious, ultimately compromises the player experience.

Fable III

The Good: Peter Molyneux blends unique mix of elements into action RPG gameplay The Bad: Some of which works, but much of which does not The Ugly: Games for Windows Live I should probably say right up front that, not only did I never play Fable the...

Look, in a sense I understand what Molyneux was trying to do here ? create a more immersive action RPG environment in that many action-RPGs are really little more than clickfests. In Fable III you can purchase houses, buy businesses, get married, and...

Fable 3 Review (PC)

Fable 3.  On PC.  Podcast listeners will already know my opinion of this one. For a start, the PC iteration of Fable 3 can be called an obvious port.  Not a lot of effort has gone into disguising the game's console roots.  Like all too many...

Oh, and don’t get me started on the Games For Windows Live client I had to use to install and run the game.  It's like Steam, if Steam were ugly, had a terrible interface, and made everything 6 times as difficult as necessary.

Fable 3

When Lionhead studios head Peter Molyneux announced the original Fable to the world before its 2004 release date, he made some pretty lofty promises. Though the team at Lionhead Studios tried, the finished product didn't deliver on a number of those...

There's also a number of unlockables you can get by playing through certain aspects of the game. Can you say Chicken suit?

Fable III

A real character.

But while these things are annoyances, they aren’t deal-breakers. What instead stays with the player is the fantastic setting, awesome quests, cool customisation that develops as the player progresses, and unusual gameplay.

Fable III PC Review: It ain't easy being king, especially on Windows

The story of a revolution in a not quite revolutionary game. We learn this again as Peter Molyneux's RPG makes the Xbox 360-to-Windows PC transition.

So it came to pass that Molyneux's latest epic was brought unto Windows. Though it was a port lacking in polish, with graphics below those of the modern age, the people embraced it as a rarity. Gritty but immature, dark yet not steeped in the occult,...

Fable III Review

Fable III lands on the PC with graphical enhancements and tougher combat, but simplified gameplay and a lack of moral choices still distract from the fun.

Strong and varied artistic design ; Consistently funny the whole way through ; Great musical score

Lack of interesting moral choices ; No emotional connection to any characters

Unfortunately, the technical aspects aren't as refined as the artistic side of things. The most glaring problem is the pathfinding. Your dog, helpful treasure hunter that he is, is awful at pointing you in the right direction. He gets stuck on rocks...

Fable III Review

There are bursts of creativity and moments of evocative moral dilemma in Lionhead Studios' most recent version of Albion on PC, but, well...

In Fable III you can be king. You quest through a fantasy countryside gathering support to overthrow a vile ruler, take the crown, then strike a balance between fulfilling promises made to supporters and the overall safety of Albion. It's a pretty game...

Fable III Review

It?s still good to be the king; it's not so good beforehand

Great writing and voice acting; looks great! Ruling a kingdom; doesn't play like a port

Dull, over-simplified gameplay; the chunk before ruling the kingdom
